From hundreds of essays published over the last half century, CHNY member Betty Fussell has selected 42 to voice her personal obsession with food as the key to what matters to us most on our shared journey toward death. The book features an introduction by Alice Waters. Fussell is the award-winning author of numerous books, ranging from biography and memoir to cookbooks and food history; she is a winner of the James Beard Foundation’s Journalism Award and was inducted into their “Who’s Who of American Food and Beverage” in 2009. Her essays on food, travel, and the arts have appeared in scholarly journals, popular magazines, and newspapers as varied as The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Los Angeles Times, Saveur, and Vogue.
